What is it that your employees want right now in their job or career with you? Is it more money, more holiday days, more benefits, or a better brand of coffee in the staff lunchroom? It may be one or all of those things, or something more. These are the normal concerns that are a part of business and have always been. While employees’ desire these from companies they work for, it’s not the primary thing they desire. As an operator of a retail store, or spa, selling Candles of Eden and other products, you need to know what’s of primary importance to your employees.

So, what do your employees really want from you and the company you own or represent? The answer is they want an environment that allows them the opportunity to be creative and productive. In other words, they want to flourish as human beings in an enjoyable work setting. Sure, money is important, and benefits, and those extra holidays, and bonuses, and the little rewards that are unique to each enterprise. However, if money, benefits, and the like were everything we would all sign up at medical, law, or investment banker school. Normally, we choose jobs and careers that provide us with the opportunity for enjoyable personal growth. Even a part-time sales associate of your Candles of Eden and other product lines wants his or her current position with you to be one where they can contribute as productive team members. They want to learn in a setting that encourages their input and makes them feel vital. More than money and all the other perks this is what they want from you.

Think of people you have come across in your daily journeys who seem to embrace and thrive in their work environment. We all know about the ones who are miserable in their work environment, but think of the ones that put a smile on your face.  They can make your day. They may be making very little money and struggling to make ends meet for themselves and any family they have. However, there they are positive and performing the job at hand with verve. Why is that? It’s because they have been given the opportunity and the stage upon which to grow as people.  More often than not, their employer has set an enjoyable environment for them. They feel they are important to their employer, their customers, and all who rely on what they do. When the day ends, they can go to bed knowing they performed to the best of their ability in a job of their choosing. Would they take more money? Sure, they would, and those extra days off and bonus checks as well. Those are all additions to something they enjoy and that is why they choose to stay where they are. When businesses do not offer employees enjoyable work environments where they can develop their potential, they often leave – no matter how much money they are making. They often have to leave. Something inside them gnaws at them and gives them that uneasy feeling that tells them they are not happy where they are.

You may have an employee who loves talking to customers about SoyLuscious® Soy Candles and other related products. You may be paying them the highest wage your budget allows and it may still be less than their friends are making elsewhere. They choose to stay with you. The reason being you have supplied them with an environment, culture, and atmosphere that they feel comfortable in and feel an important part of, along with others. That is the best thing you can offer your employees and any new recruits who desire to become a part of your organization.

You will get individuals who knock on your door and who want a job strictly for money. That’s fine, but they come and go. Many move from job to job every six months. They are like customers who move from store to store looking for the cheapest price, not quality, such as SoyLuscious® Soy Candles and other top-notch product lines you carry. They have no loyalty to a particular establishment. Employees who want more than money are your best bet as long-term employees who care. Give them what they truly want from an employer, a great environment where they can shine, develop, and contribute as part of a team. Give them responsibilities and encourage their achievements. Watch them blossom as you instill confidence and an appreciation for your business in them. Staff your spa or retail shop with those kinds of people and watch your business grow. Then you can add those perks and bonuses that are icing on the cake to a job they love.
